The Finnish company Molok Oy is looking for distributors in Bulgaria. The cost effective waste collection system Deep Collection® will be presented in Sofia.

Interview with Mr. Kari Korhonen,  Area Export Manager, Molok Oy, Exhibitor at Save the Planet 27-29 March 2018

Dear Mr Korhonen,  please tell us more about Molok Oy and your interest  toward the Bulgarian market and the exhibition

Molok Oy
is a Finnish company, the original inventor of Deep Collection® system. In the last 25 years of operations, Molok Ltd has expanded from a small family enterprise into an international company, known all over the world. Today, there are over 140.000 Molok® Deep Collection® waste containers installed in over 40 countries.
At the exhibition we are looking for partners (distributors ), various stakeholders from the waste management sector and possibly end users from Bulgaria.

The Molok container idea is based on the deep collection method. Please describe the basic idea and what are the benefits of this system?

Molok® has quickly become a waste management method for several million users around the world. Brilliant inventions are often simple. This is also true for the Molok® Deep Collection® system. The system was developed by Veikko Salli , the founder of Molok, features a vertical structure where the containers are buried about 1.5m underground  (60% of the container is located underground). Only 40% of the container is visible above the ground. Molok® containers are installed in cities, villages, parks and schools etc.

This solution offers multiple benefits. Molok® Deep Collection™ waste container is a space saving, clean, safe and economical solution for efficient and environmentally friendly waste collection.  It can reduce waste collection transportation by 30% as compared to surface waste bins. This results to less traffic and less CO2 emissions.  The large collection capacity of the waste container helps decrease traffic for emptying the container, since the emptying intervals can be increased in comparison with the containers located completely on the surface of the ground. This brings savings in waste management costs.

Molok® Deep Collection® frees space for other activities in the yard area, and the effort-free and safe system encourages the users to sort their waste. In addition, the cool underground temperature alleviates smell problems, typical for waste collection points, also in hot conditions.

Therefore, Deep Collection® is the best option whenever the most efficient and economical recycling for several different waste types is required. The Molok® containers can be used for recycling paper, cardboard, small metal, glass and organic waste. One 5 m3 Molok® Deep Collection™ container is equivalent to eight to ten 660 l surface bins depending on the collected waste fraction and the density of the waste. The compaction by gravity can increase the collection capacity by about 20%.

What is your latest development and what makes your products cost–effective solutions for the urban environment?

The main advantages of Molok® Deep Collection™:  space saving, high-capacity,waste shed is not needed, compaction by gravity, coolness of the ground slows bacterial development, emptying is less frequent, no need for the manual pulling and pushing of heavy surface bins, hygienic,no vermin, water resistant , long useful lifetime ,available for disabled users.
Molok container is lifted up and the waste is emptied from the bottom of the lifting bag into the truck. Collection is done with a crane.

As summary: emptying is more effective; crane-emptying is a quick process, less workers are needed, trucks are driving less around in the area which reduces fuel consumption, emissions and traffic.
The total collection cost of deep collection (including investment and operating cost) is about 30-50 % lower compared to surface collection.
