Strong International Presence is Expected at Save the Planet 2016

The programming period 2014-2020 and the upcoming strategy of EC for longer product and service usage encourage the countries across South-East Europe to keep investing in waste management implementing new technologies and circular economy practices. Despite the progress in the sector, waste management still falls short for the European standards with low levels of reuse, recycling and energy recovery.

Save the Planet Exhibition and Conference is a prominent event in the Region. It is organized by Via Expo and will be held from 5 to 7 April 2016 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Aiming to present the solutions embraced the whole process of waste management and recycling, the initiative is a preferred place for foreign companies intending to extend their market in South-East Europe. A strong international presence is expected again alongside with the already confirmed Italian Group Participation and Austrian Pavilion.

Some of the product highlights in 2016 are recycling and plastic waste processing plants, plants for dry and wet cleaning, extruder-granulator for plastics, board weighing and identification systems, equipment for recycling of construction waste, drum separators and windshifters, waste and biomass combustion, energy & power plant solutions, etc. For the first time a Bulgarian company will present an innovation that helps eliminate acid pollutants (SOx, HCl, HF) and comply easily and efficiently with the most stringent environmental regulations. Another exhibitor will promote its experience in the collection of hazardous waste from the households and different industries.

Speakers from European organizations will provide attendees first-hand knowledge on important topics. Nadine De Greef from the European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD) will speak about the upcoming Circular Economy Package. The European Demolition Association (EDA) was invited  to organize a special session on the role of the construction sector in the Circular Economy. A big challenge for Bulgaria is the bio waste recycling – 25% of biodegradable waste has to be recycled till 2016 and 50% of it till 2020. In the context of this purpose a topic ‘How to Turn Waste into Resource in the Food & Beverage, Agriculture and Wood Processing Sectors’ will attract the attention of delegates. The leading Bulgarian associations in the relevant sectors have confirmed their support.
