Successful public-private partnership for waste management – a presentation of Kostinbrod Eco Company

The company Kostinbrod Eco AD will be presenting for the first time at the exhibition Save the Planet. A good example for all Bulgarian municipalities to achieve recycling targets on the path of public-private partnership (PPP). Since 2009, a joint venture between the Municipality of Kostinbrod and two Belgian companies, has been working successfully and achieving excellent results.

Interview with Ms. Teodora Valcheva, Manager of Kostinbrod Eco AD.

Mrs. Valcheva, tell us briefly about the path you have gone through. What are the results at the moment?

Kostinbrod Regional Depot is a good example of a public-private partnership in Bulgaria. It is owned by the municipality of Kostinbrod and Belgian investors. Their joint-stock company Kostinbrod eco AD was established in 2009 and has been operating for 8 years now.

The company successfully has built a first stage of a modern regional landfill, operates it environmentally and mostly generates funds to finance the construction of a second waste disposal cell that is ready now and it is about to start operating. The regional landfill is a licensed landfill site with an area of 185 decares and potential for development - opportunities for further construction of other waste treatment facilities. The site is located 12 km from the town of Kostinbrod and about 15 km from the northern speed tangent of Sofia. We offer opportunities for partnership with all investors at waste disposal sites, providing them with an effective solution for their landfill residue and saving transport costs.
