Municipalities can reduce green-house gas emissions by using Kompogas technology

Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) is a global leader in energy from waste (EfW), acting as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor delivering complete turnkey plants and system solutions for energy recovery from waste. The company is an exhibitor at Save the Planet. All interested specialists could schedule a meeting and visit HZI stand in April 16-18, 2019.

We present at your attention a short interview with Mr. Rolf Hunt, Sales Manager, HZI

Dear Mr. Hunt, how the municipalities in Bulgaria and the region could use the waste as resource and how HZI technologies could help them to improve the process?

Waste is a resource that is well suited for Combined Heat and Power production and will contribute in any municipality to improve the environmental impact of the waste both locally and globally through reduced green-house gas emissions. By applying a solid, robust and well proven technology as provided by Hitachi Zosen Inova, the residual waste which is not suitable for recycling or recovery can be transformed in to cost effective, sustainable and clean electric power and heat to the benefit of the inhabitants. Green sorted waste fractions can also efficiently be transformed to high grade bio gas in the Kompogas continuous dry AD plant. This gas can be upgraded to a quality suitable for the use in the transport sector and will further contribute to reduce the negative impact on the climate from this sector. At the same time the Kompogas technology will produce a high grade compost that can safely be applied for agricultural use.

Which other industries could take advantage of HZI technologies and use waste to produce heat and electricity?

Any industry that requires large amounts of heat and power for its production can benefit from changing fuel source to waste rather than fossil fuels. Waste is a fuel that comes with a negative cost and fits well in to a production environment where heat, steam and power is required on a high and constant basis.

Please tell us your opinion about the market in the region. Which are the positive changes that you have noticed and what projects you have realized in the last several years?

The market in the region is still lacking momentum for a number of reasons. One is the general public concern and wrongful perception that the WtE plants would further pollute the environment and harm the nature. Another one is the yet missing experience how to develop such large infrastructure project within the framework of the European financing institutions. To date Hitachi Zosen Inova has not executed any WtE projects in the region.

Who would you like to welcome at your stand in April 2019?

Governmental and municipality representatives both from the energy and environmental sector. Larger civil and mechanical engineering contractors and representatives from the finance sector.
