New in Bulgaria. Biomass installation for the production of heat entirely from straw.

Djadadji  is one of the traditional exhibitors  at the EE&RES exhibition which will take place in Sofia, 27-29 March

Interview with Mr. Visser,  Director

Mr. Visser, what would be the highlight during the exhibition in  March 2018?

Together with the development of financial-engineering activities, we present two Dutch companies which produce renewable energy.

One of the companies, Kara Energy Systems, has been manufacturing industrial boilers on biomass ranging from 500 kilowatts to 15 megawatts for more than 50 years. Kara will be present for the fourth consecutive time at the exhibition. The company is a global supplier of complete combustion systems using wood and other biomass, including straw. Kara delivers turnkey installations with high durability and efficiency. The company has been active in Bulgaria since the early 1990s.

The other company associated with Kara Energy Systems is Bes Bollmann. The company is a leading international manufacturer of innovative premium drying kilns with very high energy efficiency, long service life and insignificant maintenance. The technology is compatible with Kara Energy Systems boilers. Bes Bollmann has been known on the Bulgarian market for more than 20 years and has a wide customer network.

We also continue some of our activities as asset management, as well as full care of the delivered  and integrated solar energy systems, energy efficiency installations for a large public building in Sofia, which leads to a significant reduction of energy consumption for the respective supporting operators.

Tell us briefly about your recent projects and what economic effect has been achieved.
The emphasis that we would like to pay attention to this year, is the completion of the first project in Bulgaria, regarding a biomass installation for the production of heat/steam entirely on straw.

We expect the complete launch of the 2.4 megawatt installation by the end of February 2018, and we will be able to discuss the full details of the project during the expo. What's interesting here is that our agribusiness customer closes their production cycle by the use of residual straw to produce heat that is needed back in production. This way, the company manages to optimize its energy cost and to find application for residual straw. The overall financial effect is in the company's improved economic performance and competitiveness.

Could you give more details about the new developments of KARA biomass boilers?
Starting as a family business more than a century ago, the company has delivered a number of successful projects internationally. Over the time, it has proven itself to be a reliable supplier of biomass boiler installations running on wood .
We are pleased to share that the new developments are related to the expansion of the fuel range that is utilized, namely the use of straw. The combustion process is different when using straw and requires adaptation of the boiler. At this year`s fair we will be able to provide our customers with recent details on the first such project in Bulgaria.

In addition to technological advances, due to the growing demand associated with the global development of this type of renewable energy, as well as in Bulgaria, Kara Energy Systems has started expanding the production capacities outside the Netherlands, in other European countries. The additional effect of this will be to optimize production costs and, therefore, offer more competitive price levels of the technology.

In what direction is Djadadji developing, and which international companies are you partners now?
In our effort to offer and promote clean energy, we strive for solutions that have a beneficial impact on the environment while ensuring high productivity, quality and return on investment. For example, we are very interested in cooperating with ESCOs and public service providers who would like to change their coal-fired boilers to biomass - wood or straw.
We also work with providers of resources in the Balkan region that are able to deliver biomass in the long run.
We can also provide cogeneration solutions to companies that need heat (or steam) and electricity for their production. Obviously, Kara installations meet local emission requirements through excellent filtering systems.

In addition to Kara Biomass boiler installations, Djadadji is representing another Dutch manufacturer on the Bulgarian market, Spaans Babcock, producing hydropower technology and pumps.

As a leader in its field, Spaans Babcock introduces screw technology for over 125 years. Initially, the screws are used to pump large amounts of water. For example, the Dutch lake on which Amsterdam Airport was built had been drained by Spaans screw pumps. Currently, the technology used to produce Hydro Power is the so called Archimedian screw technology, suitable for low-slope applications.

One of the advantages of this technology is that it has minimum impact on the environment around the production sites and in the broader area compared to other types of technology. This is important for us, as we do not want to create new environmental problems by trying to solve other to reduce CO2 emissions. We are also ready to participate in the development stages of hydro-energy projects (and other renewable energy sources) based on our long-standing experience.

Who are the visitors you would you like to establish contact with during the exhibition?
Our customers are industrial companies from the agricultural sector or the wood processing sector, as well as investors. We will be happy to cooperate with local and international public service providers, and we are glad when we have similar strategic goals. For example, in terms of clean energy, the transition of energy and the use of available local energy resources for clean energy.

In addition, we develop partners with IoT (Internet of Things) solutions to further improve the access to green power plants we deliver and /or operate. Along with improving the level of information on plant operation, we also provide access to control the installations on site or at a distance. One of the reasons is that we would like to keep the high level of work during the installation's lifecycle, keeping the facilities in good technical form. We see that international investors are also pushing for such solutions in order to better inspect the performance of their "investments".
