‘MARTIN GmbH is interested to participate in the project of Sofia Municipality’
Interview with Steffen Scholz

MARTIN GmbH has been active on the market for over 90 years. Please present in brief the company activity.
MARTIN GmbH für Umwelt- und Energietechnik is a family owned company, in business for more than 90 years. We have concentrated our activities on waste treatment, the focus being the design and construction of Energy-from-Waste (EfW) plants. We are partner for engineering, supplier of components as well as general contractor for the entire plant. We also ensure the supply of spare parts and provide consultation services to existing plants. The center piece of the plant, the combustion system, will be designed in detail by Martin. Together with competent partners worldwide, we have installed more than 820 combustion lines with Martin systems.
In 2015, Martin expanded it’s product portfolio by acquiring the rights to market the anaerobic digestion technology from Thöni, Austria, in certain countries. Martin will offer and build turnkey plants treating separately collected organic waste, generating biogas, compost and a liquid fertilizer.
What motivated you to participate in the exhibition EE & RE 2016? What kind of services and products will you present at the event? What is their application?
In the Eastern- and the South Eastern European Region there are current efforts to improve the waste management and disposal structure, e.g. to close EU non-compliant landfills and to encourage the recovery of waste. An important element for a modern waste structure is the thermal treatment of waste but also the treatment of biodegradable/organic waste. MARTIN has been active as a global player for decades and has made a name for itself in the field of thermally treating residual waste from households and the industrial sector. The focus has always been on recovering the energy content in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner.
Besides residual waste, organic waste also has great potential for the recovery of energy and materials. In view of this, MARTIN offers plants capable of continuously treating organic waste.
This results in tailored solutions to ideally exploit the individual potentials for the recovery of the raw materials contained in the various types of waste.
MARTIN covers all areas related to the construction of these plants.
What are your plans regarding Southeast European Region and please share a few words about realized / upcoming projects in Bulgaria?
With our many years of experiences in the field of waste treatment and our modern technologies we are convinced that we can significantly contribute in this market, to assist and support the efforts to build up this modern waste disposal structure in Eastern- and the South Eastern Europe, involving our technologies.
EfW plants in Eastern Europe with our technology have already been built in Konin (Poland) and Plzen (Czech Republic) and we are very interested to participate in the project of Sofia Municipality, the intended plant for the combined production of electricity by burning of RDF.
