Dr. Nikolaos D. Kokkinos was born in Athens, Greece and received the M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Power and High Voltage Engineering from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) UK in 2001 and 2004 respectively. Currently he is the managing director of ELEMKO SA and his main responsibilities include the management of the, R & D, production, commercial, technical and quality departments of ELEMKO SA. Nikolaos is involved into integrated technical issues related to lightning protection, surge protection, earthing and AC mitigation. He is the author of 2 books and more than 25 conference & journal publications. Additionally he participates in European (CENELEC) and international standardization (IEC) bodies. Moreover he is principal instructor for training courses and short seminars related his expertise.
This presentation aims to outline an integrated analysis of all requirements related to long term AC (steady state), short term AC (fault) and transient (lightning) electromagnetic interference on pipelines. The presented topics will include an optimization analysis, of AC mitigation protective measures, on a pipeline due to proximity (crossing and parallel paths) with a multi HV overhead line network (150kV, 400kV, single and double circuits). Additionally it will be highlighted, how, enhanced & optimized protective measures, resulting by the development of an innovative DC decoupling device in conjunction with high performance earthing improving compounds, helped to reduce the induced voltages to a safe level by fulfilling all latest EN 50443 requirements in extremely high soil resistivity area.
