Jonathan Radcliffe is the Policy Director of the Birmingham Energy Institute and a Senior Research Fellow, PhD, at the University of Birmingham. After graduating in Physics from Imperial College and Cambridge, he has been dedicated to energy system technology, policy and innovation, with a focus on energy storage. Jonathan has extensive knowledge of the policy-making process, having worked on science and innovation policy in the UK Government and Parliament for over a dozen years. He has worked with policy makers, academics and business leaders at the highest level. His publications cover future energy innovation priorities, energy storage, and flexibility options for the UK’s energy system. Jonathan has extensive international experience, including projects with China, Korea, Brazil and EU. Alongside his role in CryoHub, Jonathan leads publicly funded research projects, such as the £5m EPSRC-funded project ‘Manifest’, and is co-Director of the UK’s £4m national Energy Storage Supergen Hub.
