1. Premier Power will build four photovoltaic (PV) power plants totaling 16.2 MW in Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria
Premier Power, a global leader in the development, design, engineering and construction of solar power systems for commercial, government and utility markets, yesterday announced it will build four photovoltaic (PV) power plants totaling 16.2 MW in Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria. The projects represent a more than 75 percent increase in the country's solar capabilities since the beginning of 2011, when installed capacity was reported at approximately 21 MW. The agreement is the result of a joint venture with European EPC firm Plaan Czech, s.r.o. Ranging in size from 3 MW to 5 MW, the installations are funded through
a private investment company based in the Czech Republic."These projects underscore Premier Power's unparalleled ability to rapidly respond to dynamic economies and shifting renewable energy policies in emerging and established markets around the world. Our previous successes in Eastern Europe - a region few others have been able to effectively penetrate - are now enabling us to capture significant market share in Bulgaria," said Bjorn Persson, executive vice president of European operations at Premier Power. "We look forward to building our presence in Bulgaria as the country aggressively targets its goal of reaching 16 percent renewable power by the year 2020."
Premier Power's project portfolio spans across Europe and North America, with more than 1,000 systems in operation to date. Additional installation locations include France, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Greece, the Czech Republic, and the United States.  Construction on the Bulgaria projects will begin this month. All four systems are scheduled for completion by the end of 2011.

2. Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants (CEWEP) welcomes Energy Efficiency Directive: http://ec.europa.eu/energy/efficiency/eed/eed_en.htm.

The consideration of Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plants in local heat plans and connection to local networks is of utmost importance for the energy efficiency of those plants. WtE plants (waste incineration with energy recovery) thermally treat household and similar waste in decentralized facilities and transform it into energy, which is delivered to homes and industry.Today WtE plants, given the right circumstances, can already cover a significant amount of citizens’ heat demand. For example in Sweden, 60% of the district heating in Malmö/Burlöv is produced by WtE.  There is a huge potential across Europe for more heat delivery from WtE plants, if policy encourages investment in better infrastructure. If the policy sets the right framework, European WtE plants could produce enough energy by 2020 (potentially 196 billion kWh) to replace 6-9 nuclear power plants.

3. Bulgaria captures new business by renting roofs for PV farms

Adverts often appear on websites that promote companies wishing to hire such a space, or building owners looking for companies with projects for solar power plants. The greatest preference is given to 200 kW installations mounted on the roofs of buildings in industrial zones, along with 30 kW installations, regardless of the type of urban area in which they are located. Rooftop installations are currying favour with their low level of servicing and the fact that they can bypass all administrative procedures. Bulgaria's Renewable Energy Sources Act guarantees a 20-year purchase period for green electricity; the prices have been approved by State Energy and Water Regulation Commission and are fixed in the contract with preferential pricing. To instal equipment with a capacity of 200 kW, about 2000 square metres surface area are required, while for a capacity of 30 kW about 400 square metres of roof space is needed. Mounting a 30 kW installation takes two to three days. Each 1 kW of installed power produces electricity guaranteeing an annual revenue of 800 leva (about 400 euro), based on the established purchase prices. The price for the installation of 1 kW worth of output is currently about 2000 euro. When playing with various scenarios on lending loan calculators generated by different Bulgarian banks, the outcome is that the loan period for such an investment is between 10 and 15 years and 50 per cent of the revenues from electricity production is sufficient to repay the loan. When investing own money, the return on investment period is five to six years.
Solar panel installations on roofs are also an option for homeowners, or small-scale contractors.

4. Euroheat & Power is the international association representing the district heating and cooling (DHC) sector in Europe and beyond, covering all aspects related to District Heating and District Cooling and related energy sources and technologies including combined heat and power (CHP). To view Euroheat & Power comments on the draft directive on energy efficiency click http://www.euroheat.org/Position-Papers-63.aspx.    Euroheat & Power and the RHC-Platform are pleased to announce their partnership to hold a joint annual conference under the auspices of the Danish Presidency of the European Union. The conference will be held on the 26th and 27th of April 2012 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Experts from all over Europe will gather to explore the possibilities for smart cities to make use of renewable energy and district heating and cooling, to provide comfort to their citizens and foster the local economy. With the aims to encourage research, innovation and development, the conference will cover a wide range of renewable resources, in particular biomass, geothermal and solar thermal, as well as cross-cutting technologies. A detailed description of programme tracks will be made available soon at the conference website:  www.conference2012.eu

BioGasWorld 2012
5. BioGasWorld 2012
Starting in 2012, the international trade fair BiogasWorld will be taking place in future every two years at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds together with the traditional Solar Energy and bautec technology shows. About 70,000 visitors from around the world will be visiting the grounds on the five days of the exhibitions. Apart from the domestic German market, BiogasWorld places a special focus on the astern European countries. Within this trade fair the IBBK Fachgruppe Biogas organises several events, including an international symposium „Anaerobic Digestion of Solid Biomass and Biowaste“

6. World Alliance for Decentralized Energy  (WADE)

WADE is a non-profit research and advocacy organization that was established in June 2002 to accelerate the worldwide deployment of decentralized energy (DE) systems. National cogeneration and DE organizations, DE companies and providers, as well as a range of national
governments now back WADE. In total, WADE’s direct and indirect membership support includes over 200 corporations around the world. It is the worldwide representative organization for those parties seeking the economic and environmental benefits of decentralized energy (DE) generation – including high efficiency cogeneration (also known as combined heat and power, CHP) and decentralized renewable energy technologies.
